Relationship Style and Sexual Behaviour Study

Information Sheet for Participants
Survey now Closed.

Who is doing this research?

My name is Karen Faisandier and I am a Massey University student in the School of Psychology (Manawatu campus) conducting this research as part of an Honours degree. The primary supervisor for this project is Dr Joanne Taylor, and the project is run under the auspices of Sex Therapy New Zealand Ltd (STNZ), directed by secondary supervisor Robyn Salisbury (clinical psychologist and sex therapist).

What is this research about?

The project aims to explore the types of relationship styles experienced by people with and without ‘out-of-control sexual behaviour (OOCSB-commonly referred to as sexual ‘addiction’, sexual compulsion, hypersexuality), and is seeking New Zealand volunteers over the age of 18 to complete an anonymous online survey. The study asks 136 questions about relationship styles, sexual thoughts / feelings / behaviour, emotional experience, and substance use. Participants respond by selecting the answer that suits them best.

Please remove any identifying information and use a pseudonym before submitting your question.

What happens to survey responses?

The anonymous responses will be securely stored at Massey University and only the researcher, the primary supervisor, and the computer programmer/analyst of the School of Psychology will have access to the data. A copy of the study’s findings will be available at www.sextherapy.co.nz and http://psych-research.massey.ac.nz/faisandier/ in November 2010, following a press release . All data will be stored for four years and then destroyed.

Thank you for taking the time to read this Information Sheet and find out more about the study. If you have additional questions about participation please contact me at K.Faisandier@massey.ac.nz for more information or the supervisor Dr Jo Taylor on J.E.Taylor@massey.ac.nz
